HOW TO DOWNLOAD LIGHTROOM AND GET PRESETS ON YOUR COMPUTER

HEY guys!

So I cannot tell you how many DM’s I get from people who say they wish they could get my presets just on their phones. Trust me guys. SO DO I. We’d all be better off. To be honest, Lightroom is missing out on a TON of money. Like how cool would it be if you downloaded the Lightroom app to your phone, then searched the store for my presets, and BAM you buy them there. And obvi they could take a percentage for making everything so easy. Well sad days, that is NOT the case.

With all the questions I get, I’ve realized some things that might help you guys better understand what Lightroom is, how it works, and that it’s actually not that big of an investment up front.

I am still planning on putting together an eBook on my edits. However I am running in to the issue of which preset I lay out in the book. I now have nine presets available to purchase online, and it might be hard to cover more than one in the book!

Anyhow, let’s get in to what you came here for: Lightroom.

Just to be fully clear, in order to use presets, you HAVE to have the desktop version of Lightroom. There is a video on how to transfer the preset edits to your phone in a roundabout way, but there is no way to get presets with out having the desktop version of Lightroom.

So if people are unsure of what Lightroom is and how much they’ll use it, I think most are scared off by the hefty price tag you see to buy it. But what you might not know is that you can get Lightroom for $9.99 a month! You can go HERE to purchase and download. From what I have read, this is actually a better option than buying it outright because the program gets updated every so often, and then you would have to buy the latest version. With the monthly plan, you will receive notifications when your plan needs updating, and will always have the latest version. I will suggest that you at least consider photography a hobby and use a camera (in addition to your phone) before thinking about getting it. With that said, you can always cancel you subscription so even if you’re not sure how much you’ll use it, paying $10 to get started and try it out isn’t that much of an investment!

There are SO many tutorials online on how to use Lightroom, and I suggest taking some time to learn the basics of how it works. Even if you purchase presets, you will need to make minor adjustments to each photo depending on the lighting etc so you will want to have somewhat of an understanding of what you are doing! This tutorial goes over EVERYTHING. It’s a little bit long (Why is thirty minutes long these days?! We all just want instant errrthang. 😛 ), but you’ll learn all the tips and tricks you need to know! You can also just search YouTube for tutorials on Lightroom basics, and I’m sure a TON will come up.

Ok so you’ve bought Lightroom, watched a few tutorials, and now you want to try out my presets? It’s actually pretty easy. You can go here to purchase my presets. I have two different packs so you can look at the photos and decide which one you think would fit your style! If you are unsure and want to know how the preset will look on your photos, you can email me (moxiebennett@gmail.com) a RAW or JPEG image, and I will show you your photo with a few different presets to give you an idea. Once you have purchased them, you will simply download them to your computer. They will either automatically go into Lightroom or you’ll click to open with Lightroom, and they will file under the Presets tab in the Develop setting on Lightroom. From there you import a photo you want to edit, click on the preset you want to use, and voila! you have a #moxiepreset on your photo! Depending on the lighting in your photo, you can make minor adjustments to the exposure, contrast, etc, and once you’re happy with it, you’re done! Make sure to watch the video on how to get the edits to your phone because I know ya’ll are trying to edit on the go from your phones just like me! Oh, and obvi, you will need the Lightroom app on your phone too. You can download it for free from the App Store

Ok. I really hope this helped clear up some of the confusion and complications of Lightroom. There definitely is a learning curve to it (I’m def still learning!!!) but to me it’s so fun to figure out all of the tricks that go along with it!

Other FAQ’S:

Who takes your photos? My husband takes most of them! He’s gone a lot too though so sometimes I just have a friend or family member snap one. And occasionally, I even use my self timer!

What camera do you use? I use a Canon 6D with a 35mm Sigma Art Lens.

What’s a good beginner camera and lens? Before I upgraded to the camera I have now, I used a Canon Rebel t3i with a 50mm 1.4 lens. It’s a good starting point but I would maybe recommend the Canon 80D over the Rebel if you can save up for it! And a 50mm 1.4 lens is a great lens for professional photos that can achieve that blur effect and isn’t as expensive as a lot of other ones. I know camera equipment is a huge investment. Make sure to check Craig’s List or Offer Up too for used cameras. Because they usually have some!

Ok, I hope this was helpful! Please let me know if you have more questions!

xoxo,

Christine
